I need to quit my job

My job, to be frank, is killing me. I am always called in, held over, over worked, over stressed, and I think of work more than school.
The problem is, I don't know how long I can last sans income. I have applied to a few places but with work and school, I haven't had the time to search out other jobs.
I need to get out of food service.
I need to get out of the job that treats me like shit.
I need to get out of the job that gives me more responsibility and no title or pay to keep up with it.
I need to get out of the job that I worry more about than my schoolwork.
I need to get out of the job that has caused me to develop anxiety disorder.
I need an income
I just need to quit my job. But I don't have a plan B. So I'm scared, right now, to be unemployed because of bills and such. I get a lab position at the end of May, but I don't think it pays out until the end of the summer. I was originally going to work this lab position and two other jobs to try to support myself but...
My partner said he'd help where he can, and I know I won't starve and can afford rent for at least two months...
I just...
Uncertainty is really scary.

Date: 2015-04-02 02:25 pm (UTC)If I turned in my two week's notice and quit by the 18th, I'd only be out of a job until after finals. Which...to be fair, I never work much during dead week and finals week anyway.
Owl says if I end up needing an emergency job, he can get me a position at his second job easily. Since I know the owner there, I might have an almost guaranteed position. I'm still waiting on hearing back from a student worker position at the University Union as well.
The biggest thing is I think I need a second income while being in Lab because I don't think the pay distributes till the end of the summer, instead of monthly. While I /think/ I have enough to float, I would rather be totally sure (and thus work two jobs) than end up without food.
...Why is growing up so hard?

If I don't join by SURF, I will arrange something with my research professor.

Date: 2015-04-02 09:44 pm (UTC)Ughhhh. the position your in sucks so hard and is unfair. I'd start looking for a new job now and then quit if you can manage it. If you can't, then... IDK. Two months is possibly enough time to get another job, but yeah.

Date: 2015-04-02 10:37 pm (UTC)A friend of mine in NOGLSTP has offered to get me into working in the ItaP labs as a student helper. So I at least have that. But yeah, as of tomorrow, I turn in my two weeks notice.
My last day is April 18th. ...I hope

They know that guilt works on you, so they use it because they apparently can't seem to hire anyone who isn't a flake aside from you.
I know it feels like your responsibility, but your responsibility is not to cover for someone's terrible management style. And yes, not having a job for a little bit is nerve-wracking but do you want to fail your finals and possibly have to retake classes and thus have more money issues cause you're in school even longer?
It's hard to think about the longterm when you're in school because it mostly feels like you're on fire the entire time, but this food service job is not gonna sustain you in the future.
Anyway, you take care of you, and if your partner wants to help out. Job openings will happen more as you get to the summer anyway, so if you're good for two months? I'd say remove this worry.

Date: 2015-04-02 06:28 pm (UTC)I know my life will be awesome as soon as I graduate. By awesome, I mean more stable.
I just...I don't like "quitting" at anything. I know in this case it is an necessity, I just...feel odd doing it.
And yes, I can more than definitely last 2 months. Things are going to get even easier when Owl moves in because we eat the same food so I don't have to worry about shouldering all the food costs anymore.
