Since my last few entries have been nothing but whining I thought today I'd talk about the greatest blessing to my college career.
She is my roommate. And she is amazing.
It started in high school, actually. I've known my Roomie since Freshman Year Band. She plays clarinet. The friendship developed over the years through my twin, and everything was awesome.
Senior year, when I applied for colleges, the topic came up in AP Psychology where Roomie was my seat partner. We discussed applications, and colleges, and majors. And then we noticed something.
We'd applied to the same schools. All of them (even down to MIT, the school we all went out for for the hell of it). It was that day that we agreed, upon admittance to the same schools, we'd be roommates.
Naturally, naysayers rolled in screaming "DON'T ROOM WITH GOOD FRIENDS YOU'LL GROW TO HATE THEM." And to be honest, I was worried. Roomie is quiet outgoing and I'm loud introverted (really, these are things. Trust me). I can get messy sometimes, she's pretty organized. I try to get to bed before two if I can help it, she's known to pull the all-nighters if it gets things done.
But we hit it off great. More than great, actually. We never fight (although stern words can be exchanged depending on stress levels. Something we both understand). We help each other with homework and studying (She drug me through Physics. I passed because of her. I help with Statics this year). We're both engineers.
Roomie is also amazingly understanding. Last year I "came out" as Ace to her and expected to weird her out, to be honest. She, instead, apologized for making jokes that I didn't understand, and we found mutual jokes (seriously, don't say "chocolate" a certain way, we may break out laughing for five minutes). She would also apologize for "heterosexual moments" before asking for relationship advice, or when she'd talk about boys in her class. It was nice. She helped me come out to our friendgroup too, and has always been a constant support.
Roomie drug me to my first HvZ Callout. I do not thank anyone more than her for getting the staff position I have today. We went to our first Rocky Horror Picture Show together. She's cool with me skyping people all over the world at who knows what time. Last year, when in RP my character got proposed to, I told her and she /danced/ around the room with me.
Roomie's family has kind of taken me in too. When care packages come for her, there's always a little bit for me as well. Even when her grandmother sent her a package, there was a small bundle that said "For my other granddaughter." Her mom sent us a pinata last year for finals destressing. It was great (the pinata head may have been displayed in our room, Lord of the Flies style, on a baseball bat).
She doesn't mind that I have the AVALANCHE flag hanging in our window. We'll have random dance parties while working on homework. She's held me while I've cried (and the other way around), celebrated victories, and run to get pizza with me at two in the morning.
I am a better person because of my roommate, and forever am blessed to know her.
